Measuring up to a global set of standards

Over a decade ago, when Abhinav and I dreamed of doing business differently, we had a few core elements in mind. We wanted to do work we found interesting and challenging, where we could advise businesses and build things that deliver real value. We wanted to build a business based on a fundamental value system, striving for great outcomes for our people (employees and customers) as well as traditional business metrics. 

To us, that meant working with companies aligned to our core values, and leaders that seek to use business as a force for good and do the right thing for their people. 

We were tired of working for big corporates and, if we should be big enough to have our own employees one day, our natural operating model was to put our people over profits. Ours would be a culture of adventure and camaraderie, of bringing different minds and talents together creating something greater as a whole. Over time this would grow to include Planet as a stakeholder, incorporating our communities into our core values as well. 

Fast forward over a decade and Trineo is nearly 80 people strong across New Zealand, Australia and the United States! And this month, together with nearly 3,700 global businesses focused on being a force for good, we are extremely pleased to be celebrating B Corp Month. 

 

Our B Impact Assessment Journey

At the end of 2020, we formally announced our status as a certified B Corporation. As the first B Corp certified Salesforce Partner in ANZ, Trineo is now part of a global community of more than 3,700 for-profit business leaders who have undertaken the rigorous assessment and are pledging to use business as a force for good.

To receive this recognition is no small feat. We embarked on our B Corp journey nearly two-years prior, going through the rigours B Impact Assessment (BIA) that measures a business’s ongoing impact on its workers, community and suppliers, customers, governance and the environment. 

But the BIA does more than measure impact, it’s essentially an education and solutions tool. We were introduced to various social and environmental best practices, new ways to introduce more progressive and modern policy, and practical ways of how to become a more transparent and accountable business.

People + Planet > Profit

People and Planet over Profit was mission critical to our business from the very start and something we’ve continued to grow and nurture. From donations to local causes and philanthropic efforts to providing PTO Seva Days (a sanskrit word for selfless service and our term for volunteering) to all our employees. 

It’s a badge of honour to be recognised for our efforts as leaders using business as a force for good. The ongoing measurement and public accountability in addition to joining a global community of like minded organisations and people helps small businesses like ours gain access to information, best practices and receive the recognition that larger organisations can enjoy without a rigorous, external assessment. 

It’s been personally so rewarding to be able to achieve so many of the things we set out to do whilst building a community that stands for something bigger than ourselves along the way. Keep watching our announcements for more detail about upcoming initiatives and more ways we are bringing our Seva efforts to the forefront. But for now all I can say is we’re just getting started and it’s going to be a great next ten years!
